In a recent podcast, Jeff Grubb confirmed that Ubisoft will release an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan. After talking about Assassin’s Creed Rift and its Baghdad setting, Grubb claims that Ubisoft will eventually release an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan. Additionally, the insider explained that the Japan-based Assassin’s Creed game will be more like the RPG entries in the series, presumably similar to Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Grubb stressed that he can’t confirm if the Assassin’s Creed game that’s set in Japan is part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity or if it will be a standalone title. However, Grubb added that it is in line with what he’s heard so far. As we have already mentioned, fans have wanted to see what an Assassin’s Creed game in Japan would look like for many years. The closest we’ve had to this is the French novel, Assassin’s Creed: Fragments - The Blade of Aizu. But, if Assassin’s Creed Japan will be more like an RPG, we’re guessing that it will heavily involve Japanese mythology as well. In that case, the Japanese culture is rich with deities that would fit right in with Assassin’s Creed’s overarching narrative. In the meantime, you can check out Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima to see what Assassin’s Creed in Japan could look like. It’s been rumored that the first-party PS-exclusive game could come out on the PC soon. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima and its sequel, which is currently in the works.
