Childe’s Talents
Tartaglia or Childe can switch between his ranged form and melee form. However, the longer you are in melee form, the higher the cooldown for switching is, so keep an eye out for his cooldowns to use him effectively.
Cutting Torrent
Cutting Torrent is Tartaglia’s normal attack. Tartaglia will attack 6 consecutive times, with the last attack being the most powerful. Fun fact, Tartaglia throws the last arrow instead of using the bow. You can also perform a charged attack using the bow and it will apply the Riptide effect on the surrounding enemies. You cannot perform a plunging attack whenever you are in melee form.
Foul Legacy: Raging Tide
Foul Legacy: Raging Tide is Tartaglia’s Elemental skill. Using this elemental skill will Tartaglia’s melee form. Activating Raging Tide will also deal Hydro DMG to surrounding enemies, inflicting them with the wet status. When in this form, you can perform a charged attack that will damage enemies using the Hydro element in a cross slash pattern. If you hit an enemy that has a riptide effect with your melee attack, you will perform a Riptide Slash. This attack will spread AoE Hydro DMG on surrounding enemies. If an enemy with the Riptide effect dies, the effect is passed onto the enemy near it. Keep in mind that the longer you stay in this form, the longer the cooldown for Foul Legacy: Raging Tide is.
Havoc: Obliteration
Tartaglia has two elemental bursts. One for his ranged form and another for his melee form. When using the elemental burst in range form, Tartaglia will fire a Hydro arrow that will apply the riptide effect to surrounding enemies. When you use Tartaglia’s elemental burst in melee form, you will perform a slashing attack that will deal huge Hydro damage on surrounding enemies. You can also use the Melee Stance Elemental Burst to trigger an effect called Riptide Blast. If the opponent has a riptide effect and you use the melee elemental burst of Tartaglia, it will perform a Hydro Explosion on surrounding enemies.
Never Ending
Never Ending is Tartaglia’s passive talent unlocked at Ascension Phase 1. This skill extends the duration of the Riptide effect by up to 8 seconds.
Sword of Torrents
You can unlock the Sword of Torrents passive on the ascension phase 4. This passive applies riptide on the enemy whenever your melee attacks deal CRIT damage.
Master of Weaponry
This passive is unlocked automatically. Tartaglia can increase the normal attack level of your party members by 1.
Best Builds for Tartaglia/Childe
Childe/Tartaglia works best as the main DPS. However, if you do not have him at constellation 1, it may be challenging to manage his cooldowns. Below are the best weapons and artifact builds for Childe/Tartaglia.
Hydro Main DPS Weapons
Tartaglia is a great Hydro Main DPS character. The riptide effect can affect multiple enemies and is great for clearing enemies quickly. You can use his ranged burst first to get some energy back and go into the melee form to perform the elemental burst again.
Skyward Harp
The Skyward Harp is a five-star weapon that is most suitable for Childe/Tartaglia. Childe benefits greatly from the CRIT rate and Skyward Harp has a CRIT Rate sub stat, making it powerful for Childe. Skyward Harp has the Echoing Ballad effect. This effect increases your CRIT damage by up to 20% and every attack has a 60% chance to deal ab AoE Physical attack damage.
The Viridescent Hunt
A good four-star weapon of choice for Childe is the Viridescent Hunt. This bow also has a CRIT rate sub stat, making it great for Childe/Tartaglia. The Viridescent Hunt has a Verdant Wind effect. Your attacks will have a 50% chance to create a Cyclone, pulling enemies in and dealing 40% Attack Damage.
Rust
If you love using Tartaglia’s melee stance, Rust is a great four-star weapon option. Rust increases the damage of your normal attacks by 40%. However, this weapon decreases the damage of your charged attacks by 10% as well.
Sub DPS Weapons
Aside from being the main DPS, Childe/Tartaglia works great for a sub DPS as well. His melee form can deal sustain damage and is great for dealing AoE damage on surrounding enemies.
The Stringless
If you are using Childe as a Sub DPS, energy recharge and elemental burst damage is the stat to focus on. The Stringless is a good option because it increases the damage of your elemental skill and elemental burst by 24%.
Favonius Warbow
Another great four-star weapon option is the Favonius Warbow. Whenever your attack CRIT, you have a 60% chance to generate particles that will regenerate your energy. This effect can only happen every 12 seconds.
Tartaglia’s Artifact Set
When it comes to Tartaglia’s artifact set, you want to focus on getting CRIT rate% and ATK%.
4 Heart of Depth
Without a doubt, the Heart of Depth Artifact set is the best artifact set for Tartaglia. If you are using him as a main DPS, this artifact set can increase his Hydro damage. Keep in mind that all his attacks in melee form deal Hydro Damage, so getting an extra buff on the Hydro damage is great for him. 2 pieces of Heart of Depth will increase your Hydro Damage Bonus by 15%, and a 4 piece set will increase your attack damage by 30% after using an elemental skill.
2 Noblesse Oblige, 2 Heart of Depth
For a more sub-DPS-focused build, you can use 2 Noblesse Oblige and 2 Heart of Depth. The 2 piece Noblesse Oblige increases your elemental burst damage by 20%. You can still get the hydro damage bonus from the 2 pieces of Heart of Depth.

Team Compositions
Hydro-Pyro
The best character to pair with Tartaglia is the free-to-play character, Xiangling. Her elemental skill and burst can apply constant vaporize to enemies. Bennett will work as your healer and Sucrose is a great addition for a swirl reaction. The two pyro resonance will increase your attack by 25%. You can also change Sucrose into Zhongli or Albedo to get shields and allow Tartaglia to sustain more damage.
Hydro-Electro
Another popular team composition for Tartaglia is Fischl and Beidou. The two electro party members will give you the High Voltage elemental resonance. All Superconduct, Overloaded or Electro-charged elemental reactions will generate an Electro Elemental Particle. You can add Jean to the team to act as a healer and anemo support or Xingqiu to constantly apply Hydro on enemies.
High Investment Team
Yes, you need 3 five-star characters and a C2 Xingqiu for this team to work. Aside from Childe, you also need Zhongli and Hu Tao. Hu Tao’s passive will give your party an extra CRIT rate boost, which is great for Childe. Hu Tao is also great as a secondary DPS whenever Childe’s melee stance is on cooldown. You want to be switching between these two to deal constant damage on enemies. And lastly, Zhongli gives extra shields for extra protection against enemies.
Summary
Childe or Tartaglia is one of the best Hydro DPS in Genshin Impact. When building Childe, you have to focus on increasing his CRIT rate and ATK%. The best weapon for Tartaglia or Childe is the Skyward Harp because of its CRIT sub stat. Childe is great at defeating multiple enemies at once because almost all of his attacks and skills deal AoE damage. Xiangling and Fischl have great synergy with Tartaglia because of their elemental skill and bursts.
