To date, studios are still cautious about releasing their biggest games. Case in point, it is a common belief that Bethesda delayed Starfield because it didn’t want the game to become Cyberpunk 2077. If it’s any consolation, CDPR is finally turning things around. Cyberpunk 2077 started getting positive reviews on Steam in November and even experienced a surge in sales following its most recent big update. Finally, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting an expansion next year. This gives the game’s few remaining fans a slight sliver of hope that it could finally start living up to its potential. Now, the not-so-highly anticipated anime spinoff, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, just got a new trailer ahead of its September release. Edgerunners is a standalone 10-part anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. It’s a collaborative effort between CD Projekt Red, Netflix, and Studio Trigger, which is the anime studio behind hit shows like Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann. After giving us a color-filled trailer a few months ago, the latest Edgerunners footage gives us a glimpse of the story. Edgerunners will follow David, a street kid who had a near-death experience. After barely surviving, David joins up with a group of edge runners looking to fight the power and take down the corporations ruling Night City. We’re also introduced to the stereotypical crew members: Maine, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, Lucy, and Rebecca. When you combine Hiroyuki Imaishi’s creative vision with Studio Trigger’s stylistic action sequences, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is shaping up to be another must-watch anime headed to Netflix’s growing anime catalog.
