Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio recently noted that some in the WWE don’t want to see the former world champion back. The new report comes after a previous report that claims Triple H is open to resigning CM Punk. For what it’s worth, Meltzer reveals that the parties opposed to a CM Punk return aren’t in a position of authority. CM Punk was recently involved in a post-show brawl against The Elite’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. This resulted in suspensions for both parties, with Punk reportedly on his way out of the AEW. If the AEW and CM Punk are discussing a contract buyout, the WWE is in a good position to step in to guarantee that CM Punk won’t take his talents elsewhere. After all, despite the bad blood between the WWE and CM Punk, his best run still came with his former home. Punk worked his way from a mid-card fan-favorite all the way to becoming a headliner worthy of holding the WWE’s top title for over a year and multiple times. His run saw him loved by many fans as he worked with the promotion’s biggest stars such as John Cena and The Rock. His time with the AEW saw him capitalize on his success with the WWE as his fans followed him all the way to the rival wrestling promotion. But, his most recent wrestling run came to an end following his complaints about the professionalism in the AEW, or the lack thereof. If Triple H is willing to compromise and make peace with CM Punk, who knows? We might see him return as a surprise entrant at next year’s Royal Rumble.
