Ultimately, the new firmware update for the PS5 is heaven sent for 1440p monitor owners. If you’re lucky enough to get a PS5 and already have a 1440p monitor, you might want to get one. The actual output of the PS5 because of the firmware update on 1440p isn’t 2560 x 1440p. Instead, the actual rendering resolution is 3840 x 2160p, which the PS5 downscales to your 1440p screen. As EuroGamer points out, the result is that “performance will be the same as 4K.” The new 1440p firmware update for the PS5 isn’t the first graphical update that PS5 owners have enjoyed this year. In April, Sony finally added Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support to its flagship console. With Unreal Engine 5 promising better graphics in the next few years, the PS5’s firmware needs to keep up with its capable hardware. It’s nice to know that Sony is putting the PS5 in a position to succeed. Now, if only Sony can live up to its earlier promise to make more PS5 units available for the holiday season.
