The Snitch, as well as Jason Schreier, have “confirmed” in separate statements that whatever Sony planned for the last day of the month is no longer happening. Schreier claims that this is in line with Cory Barlog’s recent tweet. Meanwhile, The Snitch mentioned to Kotaku that the delay makes them “more worried” about the current state of God of War: Ragnarok.
— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) June 29, 2022 The best-case scenario here is that Santa Monica Studio just hasn’t had the time to work on another trailer for Ragnarok, which suggests that the studio has had its hands full with the game. If this is true, it’s best to leave the developers in peace to do their job. However, you can’t exactly just tell audiences to be “patient” for what is easily Sony’s biggest game since the PS5 launched. 2018’s God of War was the best-selling game for the PS4 with nearly 20 million units sold, outselling even Minecraft (17 million) and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (16 million). It’s safe to say that there are high expectations for Ragnarok to deliver, which brings us to our other less-positive point. At this point, things are starting to get ridiculous. As we’ve mentioned, God of War: Ragnarok is the biggest game of the year. If Sony delays the game, we might as well crown Elden Ring with the Game of the Year award right now. It is that big of a deal. If the game is coming out in the next five months, we should at least have a more extensive trailer if not at least a specific release date. Otherwise, you can’t blame fans if they’re wondering if we have another Cyberpunk 2077 on our hands. The lack of official statements or news is alarming, to say the least. It might be safer to just assume that Ragnarok isn’t coming out until next year. The only thing that we really fear is that Sony has no idea when Ragnarok might launch. For what it’s worth, Sony isn’t exactly leaving PlayStation owners hanging. The Last of Us: Part 1 is still slated to come out in September with Forspoken following suit in October. After already getting Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 earlier this year, the PS4 and the PS5 have enjoyed their fair share of exclusives this year.
