Sandberg confirmed the news on Instagram where he shared an image of the film’s titular character with the caption “Finished! Now for a little time off. See you in theaters in March!” In the image, Shazam! can be seen hovering in the air with a glowing staff in his right hand. The location is an arena and the sign on the hero’s suit is glowing. Also, there is a flash of lightning just behind him. The scene makes for an impressive showing and fans are itching to see what the movie holds. Shazam! Fury of the Gods started production in 2019 shortly after the first film’s release. In addition to Sandberg, the film will see Zachary Levi reprise his role as the titular character and Henry Gayden as the scriptwriter. The film was originally meant to come out last April. Unfortunately, it suffered several delays some of which can be attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic. Shazam! 2’s current date was announced in September when Warner Bros. pushed it back from its December release to avoid competing with James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water scheduled for release around the same time. As a result of the incessant delays, many fans were worried the film was not good enough and was undergoing major reshoots. Because of this, they’re skeptical the film’s new release date would hold. In September, Sandberg took to his socials and shut down these rumors. He assured fans that “the film will be fully done in just a few weeks” and will hit theaters as planned. In Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Meagan Good, and Djimon Hounsou will reprise their roles as Billy Batson, Frederick Freeman, Darla Dudley, and the wizard Shazam respectively. Also, the film will see Lucy Liu, Rachel Zegler, and Helen Mirren join the cast as the three daughters of Atlas – Kalypso, Anthea, and Hespera respectively. The film will see Shazam battle Atlas’s daughters who are on a mission to destroy the world. In other news, Dwayne Johnson recently confirmed, to fans’ delight, that his Black Adam character and Shazam will clash at some point. Also, Johnson’s recently released Black Adam film has grossed over $250 million within two weeks of its release. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for a March 17, 2023 release.
