With that said, players can rest easy knowing that Rift Apart has gone gold. This all but guarantees that Rift Apart will release on June 11, 2021.
Rift Apart’s June 11 Release Is All A Go
While all signs seem to point to Rift Apart releasing on June 11, 2021, you can never know for sure these days. The COVID-19 pandemic could easily force Insomniac Games to postpone the release, even though Sony has showcased Rift Apart multiple times already, including in a recent State of Play event, among many others. The fact that Rift Apart has gone gold should help ease any concerns about a potential delay or postponement. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was first revealed during the first-ever PlayStation 5 reveal event last June 2020. Since then, Sony and Insomniac Games has slowly unveiled more details about Rift Apart. The latest, of course, is news that the game has gone gold. For those that don’t know, a quick summary of what it means for a game to go gold is that development is already finished and that it’s ready for distribution.
— Insomniac Games (@insomniacgames) May 13, 2021 Insomniac Games broke the news on Twitter, which is a great indication that Rift Apart is going to release with very few issues if at all. Rift Apart will serve as the first sequel to release in the Ratchet & Clank franchise after 2013’s Into the Nexus and the first Ratchet & Clank game to release overall following 2016’s re-imagining of the original Ratchet & Clank game for the PlayStation 2. For the first time in the Ratchet & Clank series, Rift Apart will feature two playable Lombaxes. The first is the longtime titular protagonist, Ratchet. Meanwhile, the other, Rivet, is a new addition to the series. She is a female resistance fighter from an alternate reality. Together, along with Clank, the three of them will have to chase down Doctor Nefarious throughout multiple realities and put an end to all of his madness. Once it launches, Rift Apart will serve as just the fifth PS5-exclusive title available. The other four are Demon’s Souls, Godfall, Destruction Allstars, and Returnal. It is currently unknown if Insomniac Games intends to make Rift Apart available for the PlayStation 4 at later date. However, this seems very unlikely. Because it is a PS5-exclusive title, Rift Apart was designed with the DualSense’s haptic feedback and the PlayStation 5’s SSD in mind.
