In an interview with Deadline, Broccoli revealed that the studio is not rushing the search for a successor to Daniel Craig. Here’s what Broccoli had to say about the next James Bond: James Bond is a cinematic staple after Sean Connery first starred as the suave and debonair secret agent James Bond in 1963’s Dr. No. Several actors have taken on the mantle since Connery. The most recent actor to play Craig, and the most commercially successful one, is Daniel Craig. The 54-year-old actor first portrayed James Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale and ended his run with last year’s No Time to Die, which set a then-record global box office take of $733 million. We’re curious to see where James Bond will go following Craig’s highly influential take on the iconic character. But, since Broccoli is talking about “reinventing” Bond, we can assume that the next actor (or actress) will be unlike anything we’ve seen before. For starters, we know that Idris Elba is part of the “conversation.” If Elba signs on to inherit the suit, Elba will be the first Africa-American to use the 007 title. Although he would be the second if you count Lashana Lynch’s brief tenure in no Time to Die. In addition to Elba, the list of actors that have publicly stated that they’d like to play James Bond include the likes of Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Unfortunately, if filming is at least two years away, it will be just as long before we hear any news about the next James Bond.
