The Electronic Software Association confirmed in its latest statement that E3 will make its highly anticipated in-person return next June at the LA Convention Center with the help of ReedPop. We’ve known for a while that E3 will return next year as a hybrid event after it went digital last year and abandoned its initial plans for this year. However, if there’s one thing we have learned from having no E3 event for three straight years is that other companies will always step up to fill the void. If anything, not having E3 last month treated gamers to the most announcement-filled month in a while if not ever. All you need to do is to look at the lineup of the Xbox and Bethesda event to know that audiences didn’t have a chance to miss E3 at all. When you add in the reveals of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village DLC, The Last of Us: Part 1, Final Fantasy VII Remake Rebirth, and more, E3 2023 will have a hard time getting companies to join the event let alone get audiences on board. The onus is now on ReedPop to revitalize E3 2023. E3 might still be the gaming industry’s major showcase, but its influence has declined. If all three big console manufacturers skip E3 2023, ReedPop will have a real problem on its hands.
