We just received a short teaser signaling the imminent ports, followed by official confirmation from developer Oddworld Inhabitants. Oddworld Inhabitants’ official confirmation was preceded by a short teaser video, less than half a minute in length, showing the series protagonist Abe unwrapping a mysterious object which then shone a green glow, with the iconic Xbox startup sound being heard and a voice saying “They’ve always known you would come.”
While no release date for Soulstorm has been nailed down yet, the developers did state that the game would be releasing later this year, so fans don’t need to wait long to get the ports. We don’t know if there will be any outstanding differences in these versions compared to those we’ve already played, but chances are the Xbox One port will be slightly weaker on the visuals, while running on Xbox Series X will get you just about the same experience as PC with options cranked to the max. Upon release, Oddworld: Soulstorm recieved a great deal of criticism for technical issues and bugs which prevented it from reaching its full potential. In the time since then, the developers have released a number of patches and fixes to help improve the game experience, and hopefully the players who will go on to play the game’s new Xbox ports will get a more stable, technically unhindered versions. Much like how Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty! was a remake and reimagining of the first Oddworld game, Abe’s Oddysee, Soulstorm is a remake and reimagining of the second game, Abe’s Exoddus in a similar vein. Oddworld: Soulstorm will launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S later this year.
