Earlier this week, Sony confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 is finally back up on the PlayStation Store. Just a few days later, it seems like Microsoft is of the same notion as well.
When Will Microsoft Stop Offering Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds?
Normally, digital purchases are considered final. In Microsoft’s case, their policy states that refunds are only possible depending on the circumstance. One such instance was Cyberpunk 2077, with Microsoft offering Cyberpunk 2077 refunds for any copy bought from the Microsoft Store since the game was released in December 2020. More than half a year later, Microsoft plans on no longer offering full refunds for Cyberpunk 2077. If you head on over the Digital Game Purchase Refund Terms page on the Xbox website, you can see Microsoft specifically singling out Cyberpunk 2077. In particular, Microsoft states that it will be returning to its “standard digital game refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 on July 6, for both new and existing purchases.” In the same statement, Microsoft also acknowledged the work hard that CD Projekt RED has put into improving the state of Cyberpunk 2077.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 Playable on Consoles?
Both Microsoft and Sony may have taken different stances regarding Cyberpunk 2077, but the goal was the same: to hold CD Projekt RED accountable for releasing an unfinished game. Whereas Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store completely, Microsoft opted to offer full refunds instead. Also, unlike Sony, Microsoft didn’t warn Xbox players. It’s worth noting that Sony specifically stated that Cyberpunk 2077 is best played on a PS4 Pro or PS5. Having said that, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be mostly playable on consoles now. Previously, the game could barely run on the base Xbox One and PS4, let alone perform smoothly. After the arrival of Patch 1.23, the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on those consoles seems to have improved. Players are now reporting that Cyberpunk 2077 can maintain a steady 30 FPS for most of the game. If nothing goes wrong following this update, CD Projekt RED could very well recover within the lifetime of Cyberpunk 2077. But, of course, that might be putting too high of hope for a game that’s only running smoothly more than half a year after it was first released. It’s important to remember that CDPR is barely halfway through fulfilling all its earlier promises for Cyberpunk 2077. On top of making sure that Cyberpunk 2077 is running well on all platforms, CDPR has yet to release any substantial expansion or DLC content for Cyberpunk 2077. Not to mention, a next-gen version for Cyberpunk 2077 is still not available. This is supposedly the next target for CDPR. At the very least, the PS5 upgrade is expected to release sometime in late 2021.
