The first and only fourth solo outing for anyone in the MCU, Thor: Love and Thunder will follow Chris Hemsworth’s titular hero as he deals with the aftermath of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and reflects on who he truly is. But, as is always the case when you’re a superhero and a deity, at that, you can’t always enjoy your retirement in peace. As Thor contemplates what’s effectively been only a summer for him (don’t forget, Thor is thousands of years old and the events of the MCU so far span less than a decade), he finds his journey of self-discovery disturbed by a god-killing entity, Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. To defeat this new threat, Thor will need all the help he can get from his friends (Valkyrie, Korg, and the Guardians of the Galaxy) to a former flame (Mighty Thor). Check out the new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer below for a glimpse of the upcoming battle. Anticipation for the MCU sequel has remained sky-high ever since the first trailer made its debut ahead of the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Taika Waititi’s time in the MCU has been nothing short of a success as he has successfully turned the black sheep of the MCU (the first two Thor films were considered some of the worst movies in the shared cinematic universe) into one of its best outings, both financially and critically. The fourquel will look to replicate the success of 2018’s Thor: Ragnarok while attempting to balance one of the most extensive cast of characters in a solo MCU outing yet. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait for too long to find out how Thor’s next (mis)adventures will fit with the rest of the MCU movies we’ve seen so far. Who knows? Kevin Feige’s earlier statement about the next big MCU saga unraveling itself soon could have been a clue about the incoming villain’s role in the MCU. After all, Knull is one of the few comic book characters to prove himself more dangerous than Thanos. If the MCU’s version of Gorr has the same origin story, Love and Thunder might set up a future appearance of the King in Black.
