This is surprising. After all, their first-party titles are arguably one of the biggest console sellers in Sony’s repertoire. Thus, it is surprising that the PlayStation 5 is already on the market but there is not yet a single Naughty Dog title to get people to buy one (although you could argue that it’s not really necessary right now, since Sony can barely keep up with the demand). With that said, many fans and audiences are waiting on Naughty Dog to announce their next move. While it isn’t official though, a series of leaks, which includes the long-awaited The Last of Us 2 multiplayer mode, suggests that Naughty Dog is actually working on multiple projects as of the moment, including an entirely new IP.
The Last Of Us 2 Rumored To Get Abby-Centric Expansion
We already know that Naughty Dog is working on a lot right now. It’s not official official, but it’s as official as it gets. At least, as far as this very fresh tweet from Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann goes.
— Dr. Uckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) March 2, 2021 In addition to Druckmann’s tease though, it seems that a list of Naughty Dog projects has gone viral. The leak comes from a 4chan user going under the name of uZyl that has since been reposted several times, including on Reddit.
According to the information from the said leak, Naughty Dog does indeed have several “cool things” planned for the future. This includes the aforementioned multiplayer mode for The Last of Us 2, as well as Uncharted making its way to the PC in 2021. Now, the latter isn’t exactly highly surprising when you consider the GQ interview of SIE CEO and that Days Gone is already scheduled for a PC release. What is surprising though is the other two games that the rumor suggests that Naughty Dog is working on. Naughty Dog is rumored to be working on Stray’s Cross, which is an entirely new IP. However, the bigger surprise here is that they are reportedly working on an expansion for The Last of Us 2 on top of the multiplayer mode. But, that’s not all. The said expansion will apparently focus more on Abby, a central character in The Last of Us 2 that wasn’t particularly liked by audiences and critics liked. If this is indeed the case, then Neil Druckmann will have gone back on his word. Earlier, he had stated that The Last of Us 2 would have no DLC that will expand the story of the game. Instead, he claimed that they intended to tell the story of the game in a standard package. But, of course, plans do change, and this might just be one of them. The Last Of Us 2 added another playable character in Abby. However, many players disliked how the game essentially forced players to control Abby for much of the game, especially when she murdered the beloved protagonist of the first game, Joel. While it is understandable that Naughty Dog was trying to humanize the character midway through the game, what isn’t so easy to understand is why they will release a DLC based on Abby if the rumors are indeed true. Ultimately, all we can do right now is speculate. Until Naughty Dog makes an official announcement, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt.
