Should John Wick or Neo be in Mortal Kombat?
Ever since the series’ soft reboot in 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9, NetherRealm Studios has added pop culture icons as DLC fighters. The earliest crossovers for the controversial video games involved The Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Kreuger and God of War’s Kratos. Eventually, other iconic characters followed such as Friday the 13th’s Jason Vorhees along with Aliens’ Xenomorphs and Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. NetherRealm then dialed things up a notch in Mortal Kombat 11, adding several more guest appearances from characters such as RoboCop, Rambo, The Joker, The Terminator, and more. With NetherRealm reportedly focused on the next Mortal Kombat game, it’s only fair for fans to wonder which guest characters will join the roster in Mortal Kombat 12. Naturally, John Wick and Neo were brought up as potential candidates. But, it appears that Keanu Reeves isn’t a huge fan of this. In an Esquire interview, Keanu Reeves confirmed that he wouldn’t want to see Neo or John Wick in a Mortal Kombat film. He explained that Mortal Kombat is “awesome in so many ways” but that John Wick and Neo are “doing their own thing”. As disappointing as this might sound, Keanu does have a point. John Wick and Neo in Mortal Kombat might sound like a no-brainer, but perhaps they would fit better in a different kind of video game? Hopefully, that does happen in the future. But, of course, Keanu Reeves doesn’t control what happens to John Wick and Neo. The Canadian actor only portrays the characters. However, the rights to John Wick and Neo their use belong to Lionsgate and WB, respectively. In the meantime, fans can look forward to seeing Keanu in action as Neo once again. The Matrix Resurrections is expected to premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021, with a potential Fortnite crossover releasing around the same time. Also, it appears that eagle-eyed observers might have just spotted the title for John Wick 4, which is scheduled to premiere on May 27, 2022.
