After the eccentric tiger breeder became a worldwide hit in the early 2020s, having been heavily featured in Netflix’s Tiger King, a brand new season of the true-crime show is coming on November 17.
What is Season 2 of Tiger King going to be all about?
Season 2 of Tiger King, which Netflix refers to as Tiger King 2, was officially revealed via a short trailer as part of Netflix’s three-hour long TUDUM showcase. However, while the upcoming Tiger King season will bring back Joe Exotic, one person who isn’t returning is his arch-rival, Carole Baskin. Baskin’s decision to skip Tiger King 2 shouldn’t come as a surprise. It appears that she’s not a fan of how the first season cast her in such a bad light. Baskin also made it clear even before the second season’s premiere date was announced that she wasn’t going to return. In a separate statement, Baskin added that she told Tiger King’s director, Rebecca Chaiklin, to lose her number and that there was no way to explain “such a betrayal and false portrayal.” It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Tiger King 2 will bring in. According to Netflix, the first season attracted 64 million households in its first four weeks. It’s hard to think of a scenario where Tiger King 2 would pull in anywhere close to the same numbers. Several factors played a role in the first season’s success. For one, people were bored out of their minds due to the global lockdowns imposed by various governments. Not to mention, Tiger King offered an excellent escape for everyone who couldn’t go out of the house. But, then again, people’s weird fascination with Joe Exotic, who is due to be re-sentenced, might just be enough to draw them back in to watch Tiger King 2 on November 7. Until then, all fans can do is wait and see.
