According to THR, Jackass Forever made $23.5 million after premiering in 3,604 theaters all across the United States. After costing Paramount just $10 million to make, the R-rated return of Johnny Knoxville and the rest of the Jackass crew gives the studio a second-straight win at the box office after last month’s Scream knocked off Spider-Man: No Way Home from the top spot for the first time. Coincidentally, Jackass Forever’s debut is just the second time that No Way Home did not top the box office during its still-ongoing theatrical run. Paramount made headlines last year when it elected to delay a handful of its upcoming movies due to the looming threat of the COVID-19 virus. Jackass Forever was one of the first to be pushed back from its October 22 release date. Meanwhile, Top Gun 2 and Mission: Impossible 7 were both delayed to May 27 and September 30, respectively. Also postponed are the next Transformers and Star Trek films, which aren’t going to screen until sometime in 2023. Having said that, Jackass Forever’s strong debut coupled with Scream’s only reinforces Paramount’s decision to release their films in theaters exclusively. As for Jackass Forever, this was a long-time coming. The latest Jackass entry’s title was first confirmed last year, more than a decade after 2010’s Jackass 3D made its way into theaters. Although Jackass Forever did not make as much as the third Jackass film in its opening weekend, the movie didn’t cost as much either. It remains to be seen if Jackass Forever will continue pulling in the numbers in its second week and when it’s going to hit streaming platforms. In other Paramount news, the ViacomCBS subsidiary just greenlit Yellowstone for a fifth season following a record-setting Season 4. Meanwhile, Paramount+ also confirmed that the live-action Halo TV series will start streaming on March 24.
