Now, Insomniac Games has officially confirmed that a true sequel is in the works and that it’s coming in 2023.
Two Spider-Man are better than one
With Insomniac Games busy working on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, no one expected the studio to announce a new game anytime soon. However, even if Insomniac had its hands full on the latest installment on the popular PlayStation-exclusive platformer franchise, several hints and details dropped throughout the year that suggested that the first-party Sony studio was working on multiple big titles for Sony at the same time. In an earlier report, we covered Jason Hickey’s updated Linkedin profile where he added that he was working on an “unannounced project at Insomniac Games.” A few months later, Miles Morales’ mocap actor, Nadji Jeter, posted a photo of himself in full gear. Because of the announcement at the September PlayStation showcase, we can finally confirm Insomniac Games’ next projects. According to Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will arrive in 2023. It might seem like a long time to wait for a game, but it’s not unprecedented. Both GTA VI and The Elder Scrolls VI aren’t expected to release until then. Insomniac Games’ Ryan Schneider confirmed that the studio brought back a majority of the original team behind Marvel’s Spider-Man for the sequel. Among the returning figures include creative director, Bryan Intihar, and game director, Ryan Smith. Meanwhile, Yuri Lowenthal and Jeter are both returning to reprise their roles as Peter Parker and Miles Morales, respectively. Ryan also revealed that Tony Todd will voice Venom. The American actor is known for his deep and enigmatic presence in films such as 1992’s Candyman and the Final Destination series. He’s also done voice work in the past, lending his talents to voice The Fallen in 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the narrator in 2019’s Layers of Fear 2, which we consider one of the best horror games in recent memory. In addition to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games is also working on Marvel’s Wolverine. The game will star the popular X-Men character in a standalone title. Marvel’s Wolverine does not have a release date at the moment.
