Having said that, anticipation for Infinity’s next Call of Duty game is high. Modern Warfare 2 is expected to come out in October and, if we believe the recent leaks, the open beta will be scheduled a month before then. RalphsValve, via WhatIfGaming, claims that the MW2 beta dates are as follows:
PlayStation Exclusive Weekend Early Access: September 15-16 Open Beta: September 17-19 Cross-Play Weekend Early Access: September 22-23 Open Beta: September 24-26
We’re glad to see that Activision and PlayStation’s deal is still in effect. Despite the Microsoft acquisition earlier this year, Activision is still honoring its years-long partnership with Sony. As has been the case for the past few years, PlayStation owners will get first dibs on Modern Warfare 2. In total, PlayStation owners that pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 can enjoy the upcoming open beta for over ten days. Given the leaker’s record, there’s little reason to doubt the credibility of the info. If nothing else, the September start date for the open beta suggests that we’ll hear official news soon. Unfortunately, we don’t know when that’s happening. Activision isn’t going to be at August’s in-person video game conference, Gamescom 2022, which would have made for the perfect venue to drop more news about Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2, as well as Warzone Mobile. But, since Activision Blizzard is big enough to host its own showcase, we’ll just have to sit tight for the studio’s next big reveal. Speaking of reveals, Activision hasn’t done an excellent job at keeping its Call of Duty plans under wraps. Dataminers just got their hands on private matters like the maps and images of Modern Warfare 2 as well as Call of Duty 2024. Since Warzone Mobile will move on to open beta next, we should keep a close eye on what dataminers will find after digging into the next build of the upcoming free-to-play mobile title.
