For those that don’t know, Abandoned is a timed PS5-exclusive title being developed by a little-known studio, BLUE BOX Game Studios. It’s been getting a lot of traction in recent months, both because it’s a big game for a rather small studio to be taking on, and the fact that the developers seem to love dropping hints about the game’s connection with either Hideo Kojima and/or Konami. Now, there is new evidence suggesting that it’s not a Silent Hill game, but actually the sixth Metal Gear Solid installment in disguise.
Is Abandoned the sixth Metal Gear Solid title?
Before anything else, we’d like to remind you that nothing you are about to read is officially confirmed. However, as far as sources go, Anton Logvinov has a track history of leaking confidential information before they it is officially revealed. Years ago, he was one of the first to leak the PC ports of Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding, both of which were released in 2020. A rough translation of his original tweet states that “Abandoned looks like MGS6. Well, that is, Konami is working on it, I have known this for a long time, and apparently, someone decided to imitate Kojima’s marketing.” Anton is referring to how Metal Gear Solid V was first revealed to be in development by a fictional game studio, Moby Dick Studios. If this is true, it makes sense why BLUE BOX Game Studios used the likeness of Big Boss, the protagonist of Metal Gear Solid V, in the most recent teaser image for Abandoned. At the same time, we’re interested to see where this is going. Kojima is obviously no longer involved, now that he has his own studio and is busy working on Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. Coincidentally, the Director’s Cut for his studio’s debut title will give the game combat mechanics that resemble that of the Metal Gear games, one of Kojima’s best works. The last Metal Gear game released by Konami following the departure of Kojima, Metal Gear Survive, was a critical and commercial disaster. Some three years later and Konami seems ready to revisit the tactical espionage action games. If this is true and Konami is indeed working on a sixth Metal Gear Solid title, we’re hoping that the Japanese company can do it justice. Konami is currently working on multiple projects as per its earlier statement explaining why it missed E3 2021. In addition to GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, Konami just inked a deal to start a strategic partnership with Bloober Team while also working on eFootball. As for Abandoned, the game’s first trailer is set to drop on August 10. We can’t wait!
