The report from Redanian Intelligence reveals that the follow-up season to HBO’s upcoming House of the Dragon is already in development. This would suggest that HBO Max has already approved the second season albeit without an official announcement. Of course, judging by the success of Game of Thrones, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case. Game of Thrones aired on the popular cable TV network from 2011 to 2019 and won a lot of awards in the process. Despite the highly divisive final few seasons after running out of source material, many still consider Game of Thrones one of the most influential shows of all time. Even if the spin-off, House of the Dragon, has not hit cable TV and streaming platforms yet, it only makes sense to invest in its future. In addition to the success of the original show, the offshoot also boasts the services of George R.R. Martin. After working as a consultant for Game of Thrones, the famous procrastinator is one of the co-creators and showrunners of House of the Dragon. If nothing else, Martin’s increased involvement confirms that the series will not run out of source material anytime soon. Having said that, we should start hearing more about the official news of the renewal by August 21. Hopefully, by then, HBO Max will have impressed audiences enough to warrant such a forward-thinking investment after spending $30 million per episode for the debut season of House of the Dragon. While waiting, you can check out the first full-length trailer for House of the Dragon.
