All The Studios Working on Call of Duty
At the moment, Activision has at least three Call of Duty titles that are part of the Warzone ecosystem. This includes the aforementioned Call of Duty: Warzone, as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Considering the continued success of all the three said Call of Duty games, it makes sense for Activision to invest a lot of their available resources in the Call of Duty games. Still, you might find yourself surprised, if not shocked, by just how many studios are working on Call of Duty. According to CharlieIntel, Activision has, at the bare minimum, nine different developers actively working on a Call of Duty game. This includes four studios who usually work on a Call of Duty game like Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, and of course, Treyarch. Here is a complete list of all studios working on Call of Duty:
Infinity Ward Treyarch Raven Software Sledgehammer Games Beenox High Moon Studios Toys for Bob Activision Shanghai Demonware
It’s worth noting that these nine studios don’t include Tencent’s TiMi Studios, which is in charge of the development of Call of Duty Mobile. With that said, the number of developers working on a Call of Duty game is A LOT. But, what’s most interesting is how Activision isn’t afraid to relegate and delegate studios depending on performance. Case in point, Raven Software was previously a support studio before Activision appointed them as the lead developer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s campaign and Call of Duty Warzone. As for Beenox and High Moon Studios, both have had a chance at multiple Call of Duty games over the better part of the past decade. Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games is back to a lead development role again following its “demotion” after the studio’s last two Call of Duty games, Advanced Warfare and WWII, released to mixed reception. The latest studio to join the Call of Duty party is Toys for Bob. After providing support for 2018’s Crash Bandicoot N. Sale Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Toys for Bob was tasked to work on Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which many consider as the best Crash Bandicoot game to date. Because of how large Activision is, it’s not surprising for Activision to shuffle studios between supporting and lead roles now and then. case in point, Vicarious Visions, who was in charge of the critically-acclaimed and commercially successful Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake, was recently assigned to help Blizzard develop Diablo 2: Resurrected.
