According to the latest updates as per WCCF Tech, Undead Labs is getting help from Gears of War developers, The Coalition. Xbox Games Studio Head, Matt Booty, joined Xbox’s Major Nelson in a recent podcast to provide an update for State of Decay 3. In the episode, Booty talks about Xbox Game Studios’ different developers and what they’re working on. As the topic of Undead Labs comes up, Booty shared that the two studios are already working together and “using some of the technology around Unreal Engine 5 and some of the stuff that’s been in Gears of War before to bring that into State of Decay.” In addition to the partnership, Booty adds that State of Decay 2 is the “testbed, the proving grounds, for all the stuff that’s going in State of Decay 3.” Booty’s statement proves that Undead Labs has seen better times after the allegations of a toxic workplace came up earlier this year. If nothing else, Undead Labs is getting the best help possible. The Coalition is one of Xbox’s premiere studios and brings years of expertise with it with the Gears of War franchise. Hopefully, the next update we get about State of Decay 3 includes a trailer and more info about the next installment in the survival horror series. In the meantime, players can continue enjoying State of Decay 2. The 2018 title’s playerbase continues to grow as more and more discover the joys of diving deep into the in-game universe. As for Gears of War, the last we heard is that the studio will release the next installment in the Xbox-exclusive franchise in 2024/2025. The Coalition is reportedly taking its sweet time to learn the ins and outs of Unreal Engine 5 after making the shift last year. Also, a live-action adaptation of Gears of War is reportedly in development and will be revealed soon.
