Modern Warfare 2 will feature both 32v32 and 6v6 gameplay. For the former, MW2 will have two modes: Ground War and Ground War Invasion. Ground War is the traditional Call of Duty mode that will see two teams of 32 individuals “square off to capture an odd number of objectives on a large map.” The goal for each team is to earn 250 points. On the other hand, Ground War Invasion will use Ground War maps with AI but follow similar rules to Team Deathmatch. This mode will feature vehicles and see each team race towards reaching 2,000 points. As for the latter, 6v6 gameplay will have the following modes:
Free-for-All Team Deathmatch Domination Hardpoint Headquarters Control Knockout Prisoner Rescue Search & Destroy
Curiously enough, Kill Confirmed, a fan-favorite Call of Duty game mode, will not be a part of Modern Warfare 2, at least at launch. The good news is that MW2 will have two new modes: Knockout and Prisoner Rescue. The former is a round-based mode with a “bag of cash” in the middle of the map that the two teams will fight over. To win, a player will have to hold the bag for 60 seconds. Alternatively, eliminating the entire enemy lineup will secure the W as well. Knockout will disable respawns but team revives are still allowed. To up the ante, the player holding the bag will appear on the map, so all hell will break loose as soon as the enemy team spots who they’ll need to target. Respawns are still disabled with revives allowed in Prisoner Rescue. The new round-based mode will see the attacking team infiltrate enemy territory to rescue two hostages and carry them back to safety. Carrying a hostage will incur a movement penalty and disable proning or climbing. However, you will get a sweeping radar that reveals the enemy position when you pick up a hostage. Also, the hostage itself is “impervious to enemy weaponry.” Finally, you’ll only have access to your secondary weapon while carrying a hostage, so be careful. Carrying a hostage back to the extraction point nets 100 points. A successful hostage defense, extraction preventions, and enemy team eliminations will also net points as well. The goal for each team is to hit 500 points first. Things are looking up for Modern Warfare 2. Despite the standard length of the campaign, fans are finding the gameplay and graphics impressive. Unfortunately, a handful of players are getting banned from Modern Warfare 2 with no explanation.
