The 36-year-old 4-time MVP award winner, who is currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be joining Fortnite as part of its Icon Series.
When will the Fortnite Lebron James skin be released?
In an earlier article, we covered information revealed by a data miner that showed Lebron James will be the next entry to Fortnite’s Icon Series of skins. Now, Epic Games has finally confirmed it. A few days ahead of Lebron James’ arrival in Fortnite, Epic Games has given fans a glimpse at how King James will look in Fortnite. He’ll come in three different skin variations along with other accessories.
— Fortnite (@FortniteGame) July 12, 2021 When Epic Games first added the Icon Series of skins to Fortnite, the goal was to pay tribute to some of the most influential players and personalities to contribute to Fortnite. Naturally, Epic’s first choice was Ninja. Since then, other personalities have been added to the Icon Series, some of which have been questionable. While the Fortnite Lebron James skin is not exactly the most straightforward decision, it’s not unwelcome. As per the Tweet above, Lebron James will be sporting three different looks in Fortnite. The first one sees Lebron rocking a black blazer over a hooded sweatshirt with his own personal logo, a crowned lion, on his shoulders. Meanwhile, his other skin sees him wearing his jersey from the upcoming movie, Space Jam: A New Legacy, with the last one being a more casual sportswear attire that’s clearly inspired by his now-viral weekly taco night with his family. Regardless of which of the three skins you choose, Lebron will be wearing a variant of the Lebron 19s, which are expected to drop soon. A Tune Squad Lebron skin was inevitable. Space Jam: A New Legacy is set to premiere soon, so it only makes sense to cash in on the hype and generate a ton more in return. Not to mention, by releasing three different variants for the Lebron James skin in Fortnite, fans will have little else to say other than, “shut up and take my money”. On top of the outfit, Lebron James will bring with him unique back bling, pickaxe, and glider, when he arrives in Fortnite. According to Epic Games, the Lebron James skins and the King James bundle will be available to purchase on July 14.
What’s next for Fortnite?
The reaction to the official reveal of the Lebron James skin in Fortnite has been mostly positive. If you remember, many fans voiced their disappointment in Epic’s decision to add non-relevant skins to the Icon Series. Most believed that the Icon Series is meant for people who have made significant contributions to Fortnite. However, fans seem to be rather impressed with the Lebron James skin. What this means, we have no idea. Then again, it might have something to do with Lebron James’ universal appeal. Lebron James is one of the most popular figures in the entire world. He’s widely considered the best basketball player of his generation. He is also regularly compared to Michael Jordan, who is referred to by many as the Greatest of all Time or GOAT, and was the star of the original Space Jam film that aired in 1996. With Lebron James now in Fortnite, we wouldn’t be surprised if other basketball superstars end up joining him. Who knows? Epic might decide to go old school and start adding the original Monstars, or even Michael Jordan himself, as playable skins to the battle royale game in the future.
