Just weeks after multiple sources claimed that an Iron Man game by Electronic Arts was in the works, the publisher finally confirmed the project. EA and Marvel announced their joint collaboration with minimal fanfare. Motive published a press release that contained more details about the Iron Man game. But, the gist of it is not to expect the Iron Man game to come out anytime soon. Here’s an excerpt of the announcement: Despite the publisher’s efforts to try and change public perception, most still associate EA with microtransaction-filled games. The good news is that the unnamed Iron Man game will likely be more along the lines of Star Wars Jedi than, let’s say, Battlefield 2042. According to EA, Olivier Proulx will lead the development of the Iron Man game. Proulx worked on last year’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which was nominated for a Game of the Year award. At the end of the day, EA’s Iron Man game is still a win for comic book fans who would love to play as their favorite superheroes. Marvel, in particular, continues to see more and more of its characters come into video game life. Marvel and Disney most recently confirmed that Skydance New Media is working on a narrative-driven Captain America game set in World War 2. This is on top of Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man sequel and original Wolverine game. Finally, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is coming out later this year. As for EA Motive, the studio currently has its hands full working on a Dead Space remake as it prepares to release the game on January 27.
