Lee Devonald, who works for Rocksteady Studios as a Character Technical Artist, aired out his controversial thoughts on Twitter over the past few days. In a since-deleted tweet, Devonald claimed the Xbox Series S is the reason why WB Games Montreal capped the frame rates of Gotham Knights on consoles. Fans are currently up in arms over the still-unconfirmed performance capping of Gotham Knights on the PS5 and XSX. Devonald explained that multi-platform games force developers to consider the “lowest performer”. Devonald then referred to the Xbox Series S as a “potato”.
Senior dev says Xbox Series S is holding back this generation of games and says it’s not much better than a last gen console. pic.twitter.com/evrnGqt9Zc — THE RED DRAGON 🔺 (@TWTHEREDDRAGON) October 15, 2022 It’s a perfectly understandable and relatable statement. It’s the same reason gamers want incoming games out of the PS4 and Xbox One as soon as possible. But, these are thoughts best kept to yourself. Devonald has since apologized for his scathing comments before promptly deactivating his Twitter account. Rocksteady Studios is now facing the possibility of being “canceled” by fans. We’re curious to find out what will happen to Devonald following these revelations. We wouldn’t put it past Rocksteady, if not even Warner Bros., to fire him despite his significant contribution to the Arkham series over the years. Warner Bros. has been trying to distance itself from issues in recent years. We’re pretty sure it wouldn’t want players to associate its games with the internet’s next big baddie. Speaking of Warner Bros., the legal team has its hands full at the moment as it tries its best to contain the leaks of Gotham Knights ahead of the game’s release. Rocksteady is currently working on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which will come out next year.
