More sources have “leaked” info on Dead Island 2 than the game has switched developers. At the moment, Dambuster Studios is working on the Dead Island sequel. This is after Sumo Digital passed on the game after inheriting it from Yager, who stepped up as Techland’s refused to come back for the follow-up. It’s safe to say that Dead Island 2 is just as difficult to kill as the undead in the game.
Having said that, info on games that keep popping up in the rumor mill almost always has some hint of truth. Even if Dead Island 2 isn’t coming out soon, there’s a reason why we keep on getting intel that it might. If nothing else, it’s always worth listening to what Tom Henderson has to say. In a report via Try Hard Guides, Henderson claims that his sources shared that a Dead Island 2 re-reveal is in the pipeline for later this year. The same report adds that Dead Island 2 will heavily feature a co-op campaign and introduce a new cast of characters. Unfortunately, this is all Henderson and his source had to say about Dead Island 2.
♬ original sound - Xfire - Xfire For what it’s worth, this is the second time that Henderson has reported similar information. Henderson also said in February that Deep Silver is eyeing a Q4 2022 release date for Dead Island 2, which Colin Moriarty corroborated in April. The only difference is that this suggests that Dead Island 2 will only be re-revealed at The Game Awards in December with a release potentially coming soon. Then again, Henderson’s source might have not understood the release window. It’s possible that Deep Silver meant to release Dead Island 2 in Q4 FY23. In this case, Dead Island 2 could come out anytime between January 1 and March 31 next year. Either way, everything is plausible until we hear official information from the developers or the publisher. In the meantime, those who have a zombie itch can check out Dying Light 2. The follow-up to 2015’s Dying Light is more or less an improved version of Dead Island, complete with the first game’s developers in tow. The last we heard, Dying Light 2 is getting a story DLC soon. This will serve as the first of several post-launch expansions planned for Dying Light 2 as Techland promised to support the game for at least five years.
