At an early screening of Black Adam, Entertainment Tonight got the chance to ask Johnson how he helped bring back Cavill to the DC Extended Universe, and here’s what he had to say: Those who attended the Black Adam screening claim that the post-credits scene confirms all the earlier rumors as Cavill’s Superman faces off against Black Adam. After the early reactions confirmed that Black Adam could be huge for the DCEU, Cavill’s return is the icing on the cake.
— Entertainment Tonight (@etnow) October 13, 2022 The DCEU might not have had a lot of wins, but Cavill’s portrayal of the Man of Steel (including in the eponymous movie in 2013) is widely considered one of its highlights. But, despite being a fan-favorite, Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t given Cavill a chance to don the blue and red costume again in half a decade. Although the Last Son of Krypton appeared in 2019’s Shazam! and the first season of Peacemaker, neither involved Cavill. Instead, both of the said projects used body doubles in place of The Witcher actor, which all but dashed any hopes of seeing his return. To make matters worse, Warner Bros. Discovery doesn’t seem interested in continuing Zack Snyder’s plans for the DCEU, with reports suggesting that the executives regret doing Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Ultimately, Cavill’s return is a shining beacon for the DCEU fans who’ve lost hope in the struggling cinematic franchise. If nothing else, this paves the way for the return of the other actors who’ve left the DCEU to pursue other ventures. After all, if The Rock and Cavill are all-in on the DCEU, who wouldn’t want to join the ride? Black Adam will premiere in theaters on October 21.
