In a Variety interview, Leslie Grace shared her experience filming Batgirl and how it feels to take up the cowl of the popular comic book heroine. When asked during the interview when Batgirl 2 will start filming, Grace offered an interesting answer. The In The Heights actress mentioned that “there’s definitely some talks about what it could be,” while also hinting that the next Batgirl film relies on how well the first one does. Batgirl marks Warner Bros. Discovery’s first streaming-exclusive comic book release on HBO Max after exploring the DC Extended Universe in the series format earlier this year with James Gunn’s Peacemaker spinoff series, which scored a season 2 pick-up. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Batgirl will shine the spotlight on Barbara Gordon and how she goes from the daughter of Gotham City Police Department commissioner, Jim Gordon, to Batman’s ally, Batgirl. Warner Bros. is doing everything it can to hide the story details of Batgirl, but it is known that she’ll face off against Brendan Fraser’s Firefly. Batgirl is currently in post-production after filming ended after a few weeks. If we assume that Warner Bros. doesn’t delay Black Adam as well as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Batgirl will be the third DCEU movie to premiere this year, and the fourth one based on a DC Comics character. The DCEU is in dire need of a big win after successive “disappointing " releases. Even if The Batman was the best DC Comics movie in years, it’s set in a separate universe. However, it is interesting that Batgirl will come out before The Flash. DCEU originally intended to launch The Flash this year but a delay earlier this year pushed it back to June 2023. Because of this, the DCEU is stuck with a potential spoiler problem as Michael Keaton’s Batman will make his in-universe debut in Batgirl and not in The Flash. The worst-case scenario is that Warner Bros. will delay Batgirl until after The Flash comes out next year. In other news, now that the $43 billion merger between Discovery and WarnerMedia is final, fans can look forward to even bigger news in the future. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, reportedly wants to find a Kevin Feige-like figure to helm the DCEU, singling out Superman as a character currently “left to language and need to be revitalized.”
