Aside from the cardfighting games on portables, SNK vs. Capcom (also known among fans as SNK x Capcom and SVC) has not had a proper installment since 2003, with SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos. Since then, both SNK and Capcom had a series of ups and downs before both companies found their footing once again in recent years. Fighting games have returned to prominence among gamers across the globe, with King of Fighters XV and Street Fighter 6 being the newest entries from their respective owners. Is the legendary crossover fighting game SNK vs. Capcom coming back? And if so, how soon will fans have to wait? Check out everything we know so far.
EVO 2022
The rumblings of a return of the SNK vs. Capcom collaborative fighting game came about during EVO 2022.

The posters depicted the two companies’ famous characters welcoming one another back to EVO. These included Ryu and Cammy from the Capcom side, while Rugal Bernstein and Ryo Sakazaki represented the SNK roster. These posters were available at the SNK booth during the event where the company also revealed a new Fatal Fury game in the works. While this was more about welcoming the return of the event after the pandemic from the past couple of years prevented it from happening, fans of both franchises took it to mean that a new SNK vs. Capcom was in the works.
Parties interested
In an interview with VGC, Yasyuki Oda, SNK producer and designer opened up that there is a high potential for the fighting game crossover revival. Oda has been the man behind the recent resurgence of the SNK fighting game franchises, such as King of Fighters (with KoF XV) and Samurai Shodown. The aforementioned EVO posters were apparently a good indicator of the interest to do so. As Oda stated: But while fans have shown interest and the companies are willing to work on a revival, no actual plans are in place as of yet: However, Istuno may be preoccupied with other projects for the foreseeable future, including Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma. So a third SNK vs. Capcom might not be for a while. But how long will fans of the two franchises have to wait? Yasyuki Oda says “We’ll try and get it done in 10!” For the meantime, fans of SNK fighting games can whet their appetites by playing King of Fighters XV Sony Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. KoF XV is currently available through the SNK home site, the Epic Games Store, and Steam.
