Marvel seems to be interested in Silver Surfer’s role as a herald by reportedly working on a special presentation. The project will be arriving before the Fantastic Four movie. First reported by The Cosmic Circus, Marvel is rumored to be developing a Disney+ special presentation featuring the cosmic being that works for Galactus. Details about the project are scarce at this point. Multiple sources have mentioned that the setting of the presentation will not be on Earth, but in a distant corner of the universe. It was also stated that the Silver Surfer will not interact with any of the MCU characters. However, the plan to have it premiere before Fantastic Four suggests that they are linked together. Galactus is one of the main foes of the Fantastic Four. Having the Silver Surfer’s appearance in the MCU will establish some sort of continuation to the timeline after Phase Six ends with the Avengers: The Secret Wars.
Who is Silver Surfer
Norrin Radd is a young scholar from Zenn-La. This planet was in danger of being eaten by the cosmic being Galactus. Radd pleads with Galactus and becomes his herald, seeking out worlds that the entity can consume. As his herald, Galactus shared part of his cosmic powers with Radd and turned him into the Silver Surfer. It’s not known how long Radd has served Galactus. As he travels across the galaxy, he finds Earth. He then meets the Fantastic Four and eventually rebels against Galactus, which was the plot of 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. After defeating Galactus, Silver Surfer is trapped on Earth. He eventually teams up with The Hulk, Namor, and Doctor Doom to fight evil.
A tie-in to the She-Hulk season 1 finale
The She-Hulk season 1 finale was controversial as it broke the fourth wall and hinted at a new Bruce Banner solo film. The speculation was fueled by the appearance of Hulk’s son Skaar which links to the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk storyline. However, this is not the only connection that fans have made. In the comics, the planet Sakaar where Hulk once ruled after disposing of the Red King, was destroyed by Galactus. Skaar was on the planet just before it was destroyed and interacted with the Silver Surfer. The surprise visit of Skaar on Earth and the potential appearance of the Silver Surfer in the MCU is intriguing, to say the least. We might see a World War Hulk storyline where Galactus becomes the next central villain of the MCU. This is pure speculation, but we should assume that Marvel is looking beyond the Multiverse Saga. A link between Phase Five’s Silver Surfer and a Hulk film after Phase Six would surely excite fans. Nonetheless, if Silver Surfer is to premiere on Disney+ before the new Fantastic Four movie hits theaters on February 14, 2025, it’s highly likely that we’ll hear about it at the next D23, if not earlier.
